Usury Free Living Options for the 21st Century

"Empowering Muslims to Unlimited Possibilities"

Dear Brother/Sister in Islam:

As Salaamu Alaikum.

It is written in the Holy Qur'an, "Those who devour usury will not stand except as stand one whom the Satan by his touch hath driven to madness." (2.275) And, "Allah will deprive usury of all blessing." (2.276)

In today's world it is difficult to live a life that is usury (riba) free. Usury has infiltrated all aspects of our society today. Historically, usury has been condemned by all major religions. Thinking individuals and men of critical thought throughout history, from Aristotle to Einstein, have come to the conclusion that usury is at conflict with the natural order of the universe. Aristotle labeled usury as the cruelest theft and considered it more destructive to social order than murder. Einstein noted that the very nature of the atom denied the validity of the usury based financial system.

Since the 1970's there has been an effort among certain Muslims to establish financial institutions that are not tied to the usury based system. As a result of these efforts, there have been a number of financial institutions established in Geneva, Luxembourg, Copenhagen, Cairo, Amman, Kuwait, and Kuala Lumpur. However, these efforts have not been able to bring Islamic financing to the Muslim masses.

In the 1950's-60's, the late Honorable Elijah Muhammad (may Allah forgive him his short comings) understood that freedom and ownership were related. He spent his entire life trying to obtain a piece of America for the African- Americans. Today, we can complete this work started by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad by buying stock in America's corporations. In this manner we can actually turn many of these major corporations into Islamic institutions, legally and peacefully transferring a piece of America to Muslims.

Writing in the December 1996 issue of the Atlantic Monthly, Robert D. Kaylin says, "But what many people do not realize, is that life within some sort of corporation is what the future will increasingly be about." He goes on to say that the concept of the nation-state has come to an end. In the 21st century the world will be ruled by corporations. If you are not a stock holder in some of these corporations you will have no say in the future of humanity.

Most people believe that you have to be rich to play the stock market. This is not true. More than 1,000 American corporations have what is called stock dividend re-investment programs. In most cases, if you own one share of stock in that corporation, you can participate in these programs. In this way your savings can grow in a non-usurious manner, over a period of time.

Today, Muslims do not have to keep their money in a bank. They no longer have to be hoodwinked into believing that banks are safe, fire proof, and robbery proof depositories of their savings. Muslims can obey Allah by giving up what remains of usury by taking their money out of banks.

Your first step is to join First Share, 305 Mitchell Mountain Road, Westcliffe, CO 81252. Membership dues are $30 a year. For a fee of $10 per company, they will fix you up with somebody in the United States to sell you one share of that company, thereby making you eligible to participate in the stock dividend reinvestment program.

I would like to share with you some of my ideas that I have developed over 40 years that will help you live a usury free life. I will be happy to negotiate my consulting fee, which starts at $595.  I can write you a financial plan that will hopefully turn your life around. You and your family can live a prosperous, usury free life in America's society.

Terry Mohammad Tahir

Financial Options for the 21st Century

A Prayer for Muslim Prosperity

O Allah, help me to live a life that is usury free and productive in this world.
Thanks to You, O Allah, I always have plenty of everything I need.
O Allah, I know that if I give up usury, what I have lawfully earned will be protected by You.
Thank You, O Allah, for letting me keep a part of what I have earned.
Help me to invest it wisely and responsibly in a non-usury manner that is pleasing to You.
I know, O Allah, that the more I wisely spend and responsibly invest, the more I will be given to wisely spend and responsibly invest.
As long as I remember that I owe everything to You, O Allah, I deserve to prosper.
My weath contributes to my aliveness and the aliveness of others.
When I prosper, other people prosper.
When I succeed, other people succeed.
Because of You, O Allah, I have more than I need.
Help me to share it with others.
My cup runneth over because of Your mercy, O Allah.
Because of Your mercy, O Allah, there is enough to go around for everyone, including me.
